1. Choose a size for where it hangs
Center of a room
Add the room’s length and width in feet. The total is a good starting diameter in inches. For a 12 × 14 ft room, 12 + 14 = 26, so look for about 26 in: the 60A.

A round paper shade looks fuller than an open-frame fixture of the same width. If you’re between two sizes, the smaller one is a safe choice. Larger sizes need a taller ceiling where people walk underneath (see step 2).
Over a dining table
Choose a shade about 1/2 to 2/3 the width of your table. For a round table, use its diameter.

Long table? Use two or three pendants and center each one over an equal section of the table. For the largest shade per pendant, divide the table length by the number of pendants and subtract 12 in, then use whichever is smaller: that number or the width guide. Example: an 84 × 42 in table with 2 pendants gives 84 ÷ 2 − 12 = 30 in, so two 55A or 60A.
Over a kitchen island
Compact shades suit a counter: 30A, 40A or 45A. Use two or three, centered over equal sections of the island, keeping each shade at least 6 in from the ends of the island. Hang them 30–36 in above the countertop.
Entryway
Most entries call for a compact shade. People walk directly under it, so check the ceiling height too.

With an 8 ft ceiling, no size leaves 7 ft of clearance underneath. Choose a spot off the main walking path, such as over a console table. With a 9 ft ceiling, stay at 50A or smaller. A tall foyer with a 12 ft ceiling or higher can take 90A–120A.
Beside the bed
For a pair over nightstands, choose 30A or 40A. Start with the bottom of the shade about 30 in above the nightstand, and keep it beside the bed rather than over the pillows.
2. Check the height
On this page, drop means the distance from the ceiling to the bottom of the shade. Each size has a shortest possible drop, listed in the size chart.
Where people walk
Keep at least 7 ft (84 in) from the floor to the bottom of the shade.

Over a table or island
Over a 30 in dining table, aim for 30–36 in above the tabletop with an 8 ft ceiling, and add about 3 in for each extra foot of ceiling. Over a 36 in counter, aim for 30–36 in. Find your ceiling height below. The drop is the number to give your installer.

Even at their shortest drop, these sizes hang lower than the dining range: 90A, 100A and 120A with an 8 ft ceiling, and 120A with a 9 ft ceiling.

Shortest drop = shade height + 1 in canopy + at least 4 in (10 cm) of cord, measured from the ceiling to the bottom of the shade.
Before you order
- Cord: 118 in standard. Your installer shortens it on site. Need it longer? Contact us before ordering.
- Canopy: 4.7 in. Other sizes are available on request.
- Installation: Hardwired by default; we recommend a licensed electrician. Prefer plug-in? The optional plug-in cord (196 in) has a built-in bulb socket, an inline switch and 3 mounting hooks, and needs no electrical wiring.
- Light: Every size uses one E26 bulb. In a larger room, pair it with lamps for reading or task light.
- Dimming: Optional dimmable bulbs are sold separately: a remote-control bulb, or a TRIAC bulb for most U.S. wall dimmers. Recommended for 30A–75A. For 80A and larger, contact us first.
- Sloped ceiling: Send us the ceiling angle before ordering and we’ll confirm the fit.

Pairs well with
The Washi paper globe brings a soft focal point to a dining room or bedroom. Light filters through the shade, giving the room a warm ambient glow for evening meals or winding down.

These are shade dimensions. The shortest standard hardwired drop is the shade height plus 4.94" (12.54 cm), allowing for the canopy and minimum exposed cord. Use Compare sizes to check the hanging space; your installer should confirm the final clearance.
Hardwired · Standard
Connects to your ceiling wiring and turns on and off with a standard wall switch (not included). Have a licensed electrician make the connection and mount the fixture.
The 118" cord is shortened to your hanging height during installation. Need it longer? Contact us before ordering.
Plug-in · Optional add-on
No electrical wiring needed. The cord has a built-in bulb socket: fit it into the shade with the included guide, hang the light, and plug it into a wall outlet. It's a 16.4 ft (5 m) cord with an inline on/off switch.
About 47" runs from the plug to the switch and 145" from the switch to the light. Three mounting hooks are included for hanging the light and routing the cord.
Choose a cord color and plug type (US, EU, UK or AU) when you add it to your order. Plug-in orders ship without the hardwired parts. Want them too? Add a checkout note. Details are in the Plug-In Cord Add-On section.
Check the hanging space
- Shortest hardwired drop: the shade height plus about 5" (a 1" canopy and at least 4" of cord). Compare sizes lists it for each size.
- Over a table or island: start with 30–36" between the surface and the bottom of the shade.
- Where people walk underneath: keep at least 7 ft from the floor to the bottom of the shade.
- Sloped ceiling: send us the ceiling angle before ordering and we'll confirm the fit.

For dry indoor spaces. Handle the paper shade gently and don't force the support frame. If parts are missing or damaged, or the socket feels loose, stop and contact us before installing or using the light.

What’s included
Each add-on includes one dimmable bulb, shipped in the same package as your light. The remote bulb comes with its own remote. If your fixture normally comes with a standard bulb, we’ll send the dimmable one instead; the standard bulb won’t be included.
Remote batteries are included with standard shipping. Orders shipped by air can’t include batteries.

Compatibility
Recommended for single-bulb fixtures up to 30″ in diameter. Larger fixtures may need more light. Not suitable for fixtures with built-in LEDs. For chandeliers or multi-bulb lights, please check with us first.
More than one light?
Each remote controls one bulb, so every remote bulb comes with its own remote. Ordering several lights? Leave a note at checkout telling us which ones need a bulb.

The switch is on/off only. A compatible dimmable bulb can still be controlled by its remote while the switch is on.

Hardwired parts and changes
Plug-in orders ship without the hardwired installation parts. Want them too? Add a checkout note or contact us before ordering. If your light has shipped, ask us before adding a cord; extra shipping fees may apply.
Setup and safety
No electrical wiring needed. Follow the guide that comes with your pendant to fit the socket and hang the light. Use the hooks with anchors suited to your ceiling or wall.
For indoor use only. Keep the cord away from foot traffic and damage, and never run it through walls or ceilings.
Certification: The SPT-2 cord wire is certified to UL 62 (File No. E494674). This covers the wire only, not the plug, switch, socket or the assembled light.
