Reading Wall Light Guide
Place your reading wall light
For swing-arm and reading wall lights beside a bed, sofa or chair. Use these guides with the product’s Dimensions tab.

1. Choose the height
Mounting height
| Where | Height |

| Beside the bed | top of the light 55–60 in above the floor, or about 6–12 in above the headboard |
| Beside a sofa or chair | bottom of the shade near your eye level when seated |
With a tall headboard, you may need to go a little higher, up to about 66 in. When you sit up in bed, the bottom of the shade should sit around chin height, so the light falls on the page, not in your eyes.
2. Choose the position and reach
Position
Mount it to the side so the light comes over your shoulder. Beside a bed, that’s usually just outside the headboard, above the nightstand.
Swing-arm reach
Check the arm length in the product’s Dimensions. Open, the shade should reach past your shoulder; folded, it should clear the headboard, curtains and anything on the nightstand.
What to measure
- Mattress top: height from the floor
- Headboard: height and width
- Nightstand: height and width
- Seat: height of the sofa or chair seat
Before you order
- Exact sizes: Arm reach, backplate size and shade size are listed in the product’s Dimensions and Specifications.
- Power: Check whether the light is hardwired or plug-in, and where the cord runs.
